Founded in 1751, Casa Ferreirinha is known for still wines from the Douro Valley in Portugal. Dona Antonia Adelaide was born in the city of Peso da Regua in 1811 and belonged to the 4th generation of this distinguished Port producing family. Over her lifetime, she invested much of her considerable fortune in planting and improving the estate. Following her death in 1896, the business became a limited company and began a new phase building on the legacy of its Douro estates. Casa Ferreirinha was acquired by Sogrape Vinhos in 1987.
Ferreirinha owns four properties in the Upper Corgo subregion of the Douro ‒ Quinta do Seixo, Quinta da Leda, Quinta de Porto and Quinta do Caedo near Pinhao. All benefit from a Mediterranean climate, with its long growing season of moderate to warm temperatures. The estate fruit is hand-picked and gently crushed, followed by fermentation and maceration on the skins with pumping-over. The flagship of the estate is Barca Velha, considered by many to be the ne plus ultra example of its type.
Winemaker Luis Sottomayor studied in Australia and France and holds a post-graduate degree in Oenology from Escola Superior de Biotecnologia do Porto, Portugal.
Remarkable wines start with unique terroir and great grapes. One of the first dry wines made by Casa Ferreirinha with its first vintage in 1960, Vinha Grande is still a reference for the Douro region. Notes of red and black fruit with hints of cocoa and chocolate. There are further spicy notes and a well-integrated oak element adding complexity. It has powerful and firm tannins, a balanced acidity and a smooth finish.Jake Assaf

Somm (n.) - a shortened reference for sommelier, a trained and knowledgeable wine professional. SOMM (film) - a documentary by Director Jason Wise about the Master Sommelier examination. Similar to the celebrity chef phenomenon and due in-part to the documentary film series SOMM (available on Netflix), wine professionals are seeing their own emergence and nod on the global stage. We’re proud to introduce our own resident Somm and Managing Partner, Jake Assaf. Jake’s been a humble servant of the grape for more than 14 years and eagerly boasts ‘someone has got to taste wine and cheese for the rest of us.’ Jake is excellent at just that and is also a jedi master at pairing wines to perfectly suit your tastes and preferences. He personally selects the wines on our tap system (8 wines available on draft) and reserve bottle list. Our wines rotate frequently and aim to introduce you to wines you’ve never tried from producers you’ve likely not heard of. Not sure what you like? You're in good hands and we can't wait to pour you a proper glass.
