Ehren Jordan's biography reads like something out of a Ken Kersey novel. While a young adult studying art history and classic archeology at George Washington University, he took a part time job in a retail wine shop. The experience convinced him to flee to the West, eventually settling in Aspen, Colorado, where he skied, worked busing and waiting tables and eventually becoming a resident sommelier. Armed with the accumulated experience from his retail and restaurant exposure, he set his sites on the coastal region of California.
Arriving in the Napa Valley, he applied for a job as a part time tour guide at Joseph Phelps where he met Bruce Neyers, the Vice President of Phelps. Jordan quickly advanced within the company, and became the head of regional and national marketing, eventually hired to do cellar work and winemaking.
He then moved to Europe to work for Jon Luc Columbo in France's rhone Valley where he honed his Syrah-Grenache skills. After returning stateside, he renewed his association with Neyers, taking the winemaking job at Neyers in 1994 and then at Turley in 1996. He founded Failla with his wife in 1998.
Ehren spent several years looking for unique, cool-climate Pinot Noir sources. Ehren loves to experiment with his favorite varietals, coaxing out their various incarnations from different climates (cool, cooler and coolest), soil types and rootstock.
This chardonnay is fermented and aged in french oak, only 15% new and barely perceptible in the finished wine’s aromas of wet-stone, lime and oyster-shell. Malolactic fermentation provides a round, glycerin finish that balance the wine’s vibrant mouth-watering acidity.
Jake Assaf
Certified Sommelier
Somm (n.) - a shortened reference for sommelier, a trained and knowledgeable wine professional. SOMM (film) - a documentary by Director Jason Wise about the Master Sommelier examination. Similar to the celebrity chef phenomenon and due in-part to the documentary film series SOMM (available on Netflix), wine professionals are seeing their own emergence and nod on the global stage. We’re proud to introduce our own resident Somm and Managing Partner, Jake Assaf. Jake’s been a humble servant of the grape for more than 14 years and eagerly boasts ‘someone has got to taste wine and cheese for the rest of us.’ Jake is excellent at just that and is also a jedi master at pairing wines to perfectly suit your tastes and preferences. He personally selects the wines on our tap system (8 wines available on draft) and reserve bottle list. Our wines rotate frequently and aim to introduce you to wines you’ve never tried from producers you’ve likely not heard of. Not sure what you like? You're in good hands and we can't wait to pour you a proper glass.
